The Altona and Area Family Resource Group (AAFRG) was formed in 1998.  The original idea for this group came out of discussions at the Rhineland Interagency Team (RIAT) meetings.  The need for a community based volunteer group, who would champion the cause of early childhood and family needs resulted in a community forum that gave rise to AAFRG.

Currently, we are a Board of 11 members with executive positions that include 2 co-chairs, a secretary and a treasurer.  We follow a committee structure and a member of the Board is appointed to chair each committee.  Each committee chair will meet with committee members to discuss issues and bring recommendations to the Board.

We currently reside at 238 5th Ave NE, the lower level of the former clinic building in Altona.

Why do we think our work is important?

  • research into early childhood is clear that the opportunities for establishing solid foundations for positive outcomes for our children are in the first five years of life.
  • we want to support parents in learning about and applying the practices that will give their children the best start possible in those first years.
